Highlights of Sydney
Food and drink
Where can you go for a good value cheap lunch in Sydney CBD? It is not difficult to spend $10 or more for a sandwich in the Sydney city but there are still plenty of good value lunches available. Here are a selection of cheap lunches served close to Wynyard Train Station Sydney city.
Cheap Sandwiches - If you are just looking for a simple sandwich then the cheapest place to go in the Sydney city is on the corner of Erskine and Kent Street at the traditional old milk bar called Valencia Sandwich Bar. Serving a great range of sandwiches with all the fillings. There are also steak sandwiches, hamburgers and a hot meal available. A simple salad roll with cost around $3.80. Best sandwich shop in Sydney. In the mornings they do coffee and breakfast. A small coffee is $2.50 and a large coffee is $3. A Big Breakfast is $6 and includes sausage, bacon, 2 eggs, beans, chips and toast. Ir they have a bacon and egg roll with a regular coffee for $5.
Vietnamese Banh Mi Pork Rolls - How does $3.50 sound for a traditional Vietnamese pork roll - Banh Mi? At the bottom of the steps to the tunnel from Wynyard station that takes you to Hunter Connection is a little Vietnamese take away shop. The shop title says Lavie Vegetarian Breakfast. They make the best Banh Mi pork rolls in the Sydney CBD. They take a fresh bread roll and then fill with onion, corriander, cucumber, carrot and topped with 3 different types of pork slices, they top it all with a Vietnamese sauce. They will throw in a freshly chopped chilli at no extra cost if you like it spicy. They also do a chicken roll for $4.
Japanese Food - Located on Erskine Street, close to the corner of Kent Street is Megumi Gourmet Japanese Food – the same Japanese take away shop has been operating in Wynyard Station for years now. At the end of 2012, Megumi opened a smaller shop on Erskine Street, not far from Wynyard Station which has a great range of smaller lunch meals at very reasonable prices. My top pick is the Chicken Katsu Salad for $6.90 with a choice of 3 salad dressings including Homa – sesame with soy sauce.
A queue forms in the new Megumi from 12pm onwards though it doesn’t take long to get served. Most of their meals are pre-packed ready to go.
Small rice bowls with chicken katsu don or chicken teriyaki for $5.80 or Teriyaki Beef Don or spicy grilled chicken for $6.50.
